Filing period begins Wednesday for May general election

ORANGE — With the longest primary in the history of mankind finally behind us, it’s time to start talking elections. Again.

The filing period for city council seats and school board positions begins Wednesday, Jan. 30 and continues through Friday, March 1. Election day is Saturday, May 11, 2013.

People wishing to vote in the May 11 election, but who are not registered, may register until Thursday, April 11, 2013.

The first day to apply for a ballot by mail is Tuesday, March 12. Early voting is Monday, April 29 through Tuesday, May 7.


The City of Orange has three councilmembers with terms expiring this election year, including seats held by Cullin Smith, District 2; Annette Pernell, District 4; and Bill Mello, At-large Position 5.

People interested in running for office may obtain a packet from the city secretary at City Hall beginning Jan. 30.

West Orange

The City of West Orange also has three positions expiring this election.

Mayor Roy McDonald’s term is set to expire on May 11, as are the at-large council positions held by Mike Trahan and Charles Winter.

Applications for a place on the ballot are available in the office of the city secretary at City Hall, 2700 Western Ave.


Three at-large alderman positions are expiring this year in the City of Pinehurst as well. Terms are expiring for Dan Barclay, Dan Mohon and for Matt Chandler, who is currently filling the unexpired term of William D. Triggs. Triggs resigned in June 2012.

Candidate packets may be picked up at Pinehurst City Hall, 2497 Martin Luther King Jr. Drive from Jan. 30 through March 1. All applications for a place on the ballot must be received in the City Secretary’s office by 5 p.m., March 1.

Bridge City

A total of three council positions are open for election this year in Bridge City.

Terms expiring are for councilmen Kevin Mott, Place 1; Robert Simonton Jr., Place 3; and Richard Savoy, Place 5. Both Mott and Simonton are only eligible to serve one more term in office, if they seek re-election this year.

Applications can be obtained from the City Secretary's office at City Hall, 260 Rachal, Bridge City, Texas.
