ORANGE — Orange County Commissioners Court voted Monday to restrict parking on a narrow bridge on Lake Street in Bridge City.
Just before their regular 2 p.m. meeting, the commissioners held a public hearing regarding the addition of “No Parking” signs on the the guard rails at both ends of the bridge. No one from the public showed up to comment on the new parking ordinance.
County engineer Clark Slacum said vehicles parked on the bridge could cause traffic congestion that may slow the passage of emergency vehicles trying to reach calls from the Bailey's area. Lake Street is the only access to this area.
The new signs, which will read “No Parking Between Signs” will be in place shortly. OC Sheriff Keith Merritt said his department will allow motorists a reasonable grace period after the signs are erected before deputies begin issuing citations.
The commissioners also certified the canvas from of the 2012 General Election and approved the bond of recently-elected County Court-at-Law Judge Mandy White-Rogers, clearing the way for her to take her seat on the bench immediately.
The commissioners also:
• Approved the Oct. 31 reports from the County Treasurer
• Authorized County Judge Carl Thibodeaux and Sheriff Merritt to sign both the state and federal Annual Certification Report for 2011-12
• Renewed an annual contract with Five Star Correctional Services, which provides meals for inmates in the county jail
• Granted permission to the Purchasing Agent to advertise for proposals for the Registered Sanitation or Professional Engineer Service for the FY-2008 Coastal Impact Assistance Program (CIAP) for sewer on-site or tie-ins.
