ORANGE — A budget that will raise more property tax was adopted on Monday.
The increase of new property on the tax rolls is the explanation for the increased revenues. The tax rate adopted of .52990 is the same as last years rate.
A change to the budget presented is a $7,000 increase to the Operations Maintenance line item to be voted on at a later date.
“There is no debt service this year,” John Dubose, commissioner pct. 3 said. “This is the same tax rate as last year.”
County Judge Carl Thibodeaux said that if the property value increased it raises more taxes but if the value did not change there would be a 0% increase.
The court adopted the budget, ratified the property tax increase and adopted the ad valorem tax rates for the taxable year 2012.
The court set the salaries, expenses and other expenses of elected county and precinct officials for the fiscal year 2012/2013 as published on 1D, Saturday, September 15, 2012 in the Orange Leader Public Notice section.
The court approved paying $912,394.93 in bills.
The court approved the transfer of funds for line items within the 128th Judicial District Court, Road & bridge Department, 163rd Judicial District Court and Justice of the Peace, Precinct #3 to provide funds for the remainder of the fiscal year.
“To the end of this week actually,” Thibodeaux said.
