Jefferson Refinery project moves forward

ORANGE — Orange County Commissioners Court approved the County Judge to sign a letter stating approval of the Jefferson Refinery development bonds.

The proposed Terminal and Port loading and unloading facilities at the Port of Beaumont in Orange County - The Port of Beaumont Transload Project was approved by the court on January 2012. The court requested The Jefferson County Industrial Development Corporation issue bonds for the Port of Beaumont Transload Project because the facility is outside the boundaries of Jefferson County. The bonds are authorized for the benefit of Jefferson Refinery, LLC.

Jefferson Refinery plans to reopen the refinery in Hampshire. The project started four years ago.

According to County Judge Carl Thibodeaux, Guy N. Goodson of Germer Attorney at Law said it is part of proceeding with the bonds and drawdowns at the end of the year.

“There is no liability to Orange County,” Thibodeaux said during the Monday afternoon meeting. “We approved the bonds to sell for the project in Orange County.”

Frank Messina, of Germer Attorney at Law, was on hand for any questions the commissioners may of had.

“In order to be in compliance with the tax codes,” Messina said. “We have to have approval of the court.”
