TSU chancellor to speak at LSC-O commencement Friday

Texas State University System Chancellor Charles Matthews will be the guest speaker at the Lamar State College-Orange fall commencement, Friday, Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. in the Lutcher Theater.

Prior to his position as chancellor, Matthews served as the commissioner of the Railroad Commission of Texas for 10 years.

He has also served as the mayor of Garland and as the president of the Texas Municipal Power Agency.

Matthews earned a bachelor’s degree at the University of Texas at Dallas, a master’s in public administration from Texas State University-San Marcos and just completed a doctoral degree at the University of Texas at Austin in higher education.

Dr. J. Michael Shahan, LSC-O president, will introduce the special guest and confer the degrees.

Other LSC-O dignitaries on the program are Dr. Sheila Gunter, vice president for academic affairs, certification of candidates; Bobbie Burgess, vice president for student services and auxiliary enterprises, presentation of graduating class; and Carla Dando, dean of instruction, recognition of honor graduates. Rafi Ansari, liberal arts graduate, will sing the National Anthem.
