BRIDGE CITY — It's time to get your game face on because the annual washer board tournament is back.
The Bridge City Chamber of Commerce will host its fourth annual Washer Board Tournament starting at 9 a.m. Saturday, at the Bridge City Community Center. The doors open at 8:30 a.m.
The annual chamber of commerce fundraiser is open to individuals or two-person teams with plenty of prizes available. Registration is $15 per person or $25 per team and participants must register by 9 a.m. Saturday.
The washer board tournament is typically held in September each year, but the chamber opted to change the annual event to summer to accommodate local residents and youth.
’We wanted to move the event up from September because once school starts, families are just so busy,’ said Janelle Sehon, executive vice president. ’And we have added more things to make this a really fun day for the family.’
Added features to this year’s fundraiser include a classic car and bike show, plus children’s activities such as face painting and a moonwalk and delicious festival type food and treats such as nachos, links, funnel cakes, snow cones and more.
There is no charge for the public to attend Saturday’s events, which is an even better reason to head out.
The winning team and individual of the washer board tournament will receive a washer board set, plus a small cash prize and a trophy. Trophies will also be presented to second and third place winners.
Another attraction of the fundraiser event is the silent auction, which allows individuals to bid on a variety of items such as a wooden porch swing, movie tickets, pizza, a cookbook and various seasonings and many other donations from area businesses.
The car show offers area automobile enthusiasts the opportunity to publicly display the vehicle they have put so many hours into restoring.
’This is an event the entire family can enjoy and have a good time with,’ said Evelyn Brandon, Sehon’s assistant. ’The public will also be able to vote on their personal favorite vehicle in the ’Best of Show’ category and there will be a ’Ladies Choice’ vote as well.’
Entries are still being accepted for the classic car and motorcycle show. Fees are $10 per vehicle in advance and $15 per vehicle on the day of the event and classes available are General Motors, Ford, Mopar, Street Rod, Rat Rod, Muscle Car, Bike and other.
Gopher Industries will provide music throughout the day as the company brings in a specially built vehicle which packs a real punch in its sound system.
A split the pot drawing will also be held, plus attendees will also be able to see a 1923 Ford Model T fire engine and possibly a miniature fire truck.
