Special to the Leader

Bridge City High School senior Madison Davis won the third place position in editorial writing at the state UIL meet at the University of Texas at Austin this past weekend.
Editorial writing is a specific journalistic style of writing that requires the writer to take a stand on an issue and call the audience to take action. Placing at this level is very difficult due to the strict judging of the state-wide competition.
Davis has competed at the regional level in either news or editorial writing every year since her freshman year, placing as an alternate to the state meet twice and winning first place in the region this year.
Davis is a major contributor to Bridge City High School’s district and regional sweepstakes wins over the past four years. She has also contributed to Bridge City’s journalism reign as either first or second place team every year since her freshman year.
Davis will attend Lamar University this fall as a Mirabeau Scholar; a coveted honor combining academic skill as well has contributions to the community and extracurricular involvement.
The journalism coach is Caroline Hennigan.
