Red Hat groups celebrate 10th anniversary
Special to the Leader
BEAUMONT — The Rhinestone Red Hatters Queen’s Council held its “Third Annual Extravaganza and Dinner” on April 18, at the MCM Elegante Hotel in Beaumont.
More than 230 Red Hat Society members attended the April event, which included women from across the Golden Triangle, Channelview, Houston, Wildwood and as far away as Welsh, La.
Council Queen Lyska Shaffer welcomed everyone to the extravaganza, and then Lady Edra Fusselman gave the invocation, and lead the ladies, who were dressed in large red or pink hats and matching ensembles, in a “Happy Birthday Red Hat Society” song in recognition of the group’s 10th year of existence.
Once the Red Hatters had feasted royally, Princess of the Cybernet, Jerry Lynn Hall presented the “Ducky” award and, later, door and ticket prizes throughout the evening.
Next, Shaffer presented Hall, Mildred Bellard, Velma Clark, and Anetia Merrell each with a beautiful long-stemmed red rose to thank them for the many hours which they had worked in helping to arrange and organize the event.
The Red Hat Mystery Theater also presented a murder mystery, “The Baroness’ Tea,” which was written by Vidor playwright and emcee Joyce Aldrich. At the end of the play, the cast presented Aldrich with a red vase containing a half-dozen red roses.
As the event came to a close, the Rhinestone Red Hatters Queen’s Council and its members thanked the various businesses in Orange, Vidor, Beaumont, Lumberton and Houston for their generous donations which were used for “goody bags” and door prizes, and Anderson Studio in Vidor served as the official Red Hat photographer at this event.
