Souls of our feet to boogie at the Lutcher

It may not be Fred Astaire or Ginger Rogers, but from Indianapolis to Washington State, The Souls of Our Feet is making a mark across the country following its highly successful premiere in Austin in November 2006.

To standing ovations, this concert has delivered flying feet from the past to the present and will be at Lutcher Theater in Orange at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 25.

This fast paced collection of footwork restages and pays tribute to the best of rhythm tap masterpieces from Fred Astaire and Eleanor Powell to The Nicholas Brothers as well as contemporary works of living masters. Led by the live jazz music of the Eddy Hobizal Jazz Trio and featuring international solo artists Dianne Walker and Acia Gray as well as Tapestry artist Jason Janas, this one-of-a-kind concert brings swingin’ jazz and 18 flying feet keeping time to the pulse of this wonderful and indigenous American artform; a celebration of rhythm at its best.

“Tapestry dancers fly through complicated patterns such as the popular ‘Fascinatin' Shim Sham’ and traditional vaudeville choruses in total unison, the torrent of toes astounds,” according to The Austin American – Statesman (November 2006).

Tapestry Dance Company’s The Souls of Our Feet was made possible by the National Endowment for the Arts American Masterpiece: Dance Initiative, administered by the New England Foundation for the Arts. Additional support provided by Mid-America Arts Alliance.
