VIDEO: Rock band Saliva returns for Thursday concert

BEAUMONT — The face may be different, but there is no disputing the songs and the sound are Saliva.

Rock group Saliva returns to Southeast Texas for the second time in 2012 with a concert tonight, Thursday, Sept. 27, at The Gig on Crockett Street in downtown Beaumont. Advance tickets are $12 at and $15 at the door, and special guests are October Rage, Brompton and Autumn Stay.

The band features now features vocalist Bobby Amaru instead of Josey Scott, who departed the group in late 2011, but once you hear Amaru’s vocals paired with the group’s signature sound, you know it’s Saliva and everything is going to be OK.

For the better part of a decade, Saliva dominated radio airwaves. Whether you realize it or not, just about every rock music fans knows a song by Saliva. Below are, arguably, the band’s five best songs.

5. All Around the World - New song released earlier in 2012 featuring Amaru’s vocals. A catchy rock song. Best thing from band in past 5 years and show’s there is life for Saliva after Josey.

4. Rest in Pieces - Another great power ballad-esque song from the band’s third album, “Back into Your System,” released in November 2002. It was co-written by Nikki Sixx.

3. Ladies and Gentlemen - This song skyrocketed to No. 2 on the U.S. Mainstream rock charts in early 2007 and is the best selling Saliva single ever. It was also used as the theme song for WrestleMania 23.

2. Always - This is basically the 21st century version of a power ballad, but it still has enough attitude to rock and appeal to be heard on modern rock radio. This song reached number one on the modern rock chart in 2002.

1. Click, Click, Boom - The band may have released more popular songs, but this is song that defined Saliva as a rock band on its March 2001 release, “Every Six Seconds.” It’s heavy, in-your-face, raise your fist and yell chorus is still a crowd favorite at every concert.
