This Week in Local Music History (March 5 - March 11)

BEAUMONT — March is a great month for live music shows featuring national artists. Below are some of the artists which have performed in Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana during the week of March 5 through March 11.

• March 5, 2009 Rock band Dokken, best known for its brand of hard rock and hit songs from the 1980s, featuring founding members Don Dokken and “Wild” Mick Brown, performed at Scout Bar on Crockett Street. The band was touring in support of its May 2008 release, “Lightning Strikes Again.”

• March 5, 2000 That “Little ol’ band from Texas,” ZZ Top, performed a sold out showcase at the Montagne Center on the campus of Lamar University in Beaumont.

• March 6, 2011 Train performed at the L’Auberge du Lac Event Center Casino in Lake Charles, La.

• March 6, 2009 Country music singer Travis Tritt performed at Dixie Dancehall in support of his August 2007 release, “The Storm.”

• March 6, 1983 Ozzy Osbourne performed at the Lake Charles Civic Center. This tour occurred following “Diary of a Madman” and prior to the release of “Bark at the Moon” in late 1983.

• March 6, 1979 Scottish rockers Nazareth performed at the Beaumont Civic Center as the band toured behind its 10th album, “No Mean City,” which peaked at No. 88 on the Billboard Top 200 albums chart. Thin Lizzy opened the show in support of its forthcoming album, “Black Rose: A Rock Legend.”

• March 7, 2013 Country music artist Billy Currington performed at Nutty Jerry’s in Winnie in advance of his September release, “We Are Tonight.” Opening the show was Walker Hayes.

• March 7, 2007 Maryland rock outfit Clutch performed to a capacity crowd at Antone’s in downtown Beaumont as the band toured in advance of its forthcoming release, “From Beale Street to Oblivion.”

• March 9, 2012 Country music singer Randy Travis performed at Nutty Jerry’s in Winnie in support of his October 2011 release, “Blessed Assurance.”

• March 9, 2007 Rapper Vanilla Ice returned to Southeast Texas for a concert at Antone’s in downtown Beaumont as the artist toured in support of his November 2008 remix album, “Vanilla Ice is Back!” The CD featured his trademark tune, “Ice Ice Baby,” and cover songs of artists Public Enemy, Sir Mix-a-Lot, The Gap Band, Bob Marley and more.
