This Week in Local Music History

ORANGE — Even with the arrival of the holiday season, the Thanksgiving holiday week has seen many big name artists perform across the region prior to and following Thanksgiving. Below is a listing of events during the week of Nov. 22 - Nov. 29.

• Nov. 22, 1986 Country artist Mel Tillis performed at the Lutcher Theater in Orange.

• Nov. 23, 2012 Country music legend George Jones performed at Nutty Jerry’s in Winnie, in what would be his last show ever in Southeast Texas prior to his death in 2013. Opening the show was Hayes Carll.

• Nov. 23, 2009 Rock band Hinder returned to Beaumont in support of its sophomore album, “Take It to the Limit,” for a special concert inside Ford Exhibit Hall at Ford Park. Special guests included Faktion and The Veer Union.

• Nov. 23, 1985 L.A. rock outfit Ratt performed in the Lake Charles Civic Center in support of its sophomore album, “Invasion of Your Privacy.” Bon Jovi, touring in support of its album, “7800 Fahrenheit,” opened the concert.

• Nov. 24, 2012 Country musician Jamey Johnson returned to Southeast Texas for a concert at Nutty Jerry’s in Winnie in support of October 2012 release, “Living for a Song: A Tribute to Hank Cochran.” Adam Hood opened the show.

• Nov. 24, 2012 The Houston-based band The Hunger returned to the Golden Triangle for a concert at The Gig in downtown Beaumont.

• Nov. 24, 1990 Country music group The Gatlin Brothers performed at the Lutcher Theater in downtown Orange.

• Nov. 24, 1966 Rock legend Jerry Lee Lewis performed inside the Beaumont Coliseum in support of his album, “Memphis Beat.”

• Nov. 25, 2008 Rock band Staind returned to Beaumont for the first time since 2006 with a concert inside Ford Arena in Beaumont as the band toured in support of its August 2008 release, “The Illusion of Progress,” featuring the chart topping single, “Believe.” Special guests included Seether and Papa Roach.

• Nov. 25, 1955 “The King of Rock n Roll,” Elvis Presley, performed on this day at Woodrow Wilson High School in Port Arthur.

• Nov. 29, 1983 British blues-rock band Foghat returned to Southeast Texas for a showcase at Cardi’s in Beaumont as the group toured in support of its May 1983 release, “Zig-Zag Walk.” This was the band’s last album until 1994.
