Jazz and Blues Fest features Blues Brothers tribute act

BEAUMONT — Fifteen music acts performing on three stages in one day near the water sounds like a great way to kick-off the summer.

The Ninth Annual Jazz and Blues Fest is back with another solid line-up of music starting at 3 p.m., Saturday, June 7, at the Downtown Event Centre Lake, 700 Crockett Street in Beaumont. Tickets are $10 and on sale now at all Ticketmaster outlets, including the Beaumont Civic Center box office. Children under age 10 are admitted free of charge.

This year’s line-up features an array of performers, including nationally recognized Blues Brothers tribute act, the Briefcase Blues as the main attraction.

The Briefcase Blues is a live musical show-band and revue based on the Blues

Brothers characters originally created by “Saturday Night Live” comedians Dan Akroyd and John Belushi, according to its official website. All the hits one might expect such as the “Theme from Rawhide” and “Soul Man” are part of the set, as well as hits like “Mustang Sally” and “Jailhouse Rock.”

Also part of the Ninth Annual Jazz and Blues Fest, which is sponsored by the City of Beaumont and Kinsel Lincoln, are Dean James, Jo-El Sonnier, Ashlynn Ivy performing with local music legend Barbara Lynn, the Jazz Innovators, Silas Feemster, the Justin Pierce Band, Buddy B, Paul Orta and The Kingpins, Katie Whitney and The Draw, Stone Cold, 3 Car Garage (3CG), Madison King and The Jimmy Simmons Band.

The event is suitable for the entire family. Along with music, guests can visit the Skate Plaza as well as the Rotary Centennial Playground while enjoying the scenery of the lake and venue.

Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets. For more information, visit for the schedule and directions.
