This Week in Local Music History 4.25.13

BEAUMONT — Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana have seen its share of legendary concert performances, and more are on the way in 2013. Here’s a look back at some of the events between April 25 through May 1 over the years.

• April 25, 2000 Music superstar Elton John performed a sold-out showcase at the Montagne Center on the campus of Lamar University in Beaumont.

• April 25, 1987 The Kingston Trio performed at the Lutcher Theater in Orange.

• April 26, 2008 The featured artists for the annual Texas Bar-B-Q Festival at Claiborne West Park in Vidor were Wade Hayes and Ricochet.

• April 27, 2003 The Little River Band returned to Southeast Texas for a concert at Antone’s in Beaumont.

• April 28, 2007 Motown legends The Temptations gave a smashing performance to a capacity crowd inside the Jefferson Theater in downtown Beaumont.

• April 28, 2005 Rock band Styx performed to a capacity crowd at Cactus Canyon in Beaumont in support of its forthcoming May release, “Big Bang Theory,” an album of cover songs.

• April 28, 2005 Songwriter and musician Leon Russell performed at Antone’s on Crockett Street in downtown Beaumont.

• April 28, 1993 English electronic group Meat Beat Manifesto arrived in Beaumont for a concert at Phaz II in support of its 1992 release, “Satyricon.”

• April 29, 2011 Country music superstar Clint Black dazzled hundreds of country music fans with a sizzling performance at the Texas Bar-B-Q Festival at Claiborne West Park in Vidor.

• April 29, 2005 Singer and Jacksonville, Texas-native Chris Cagle headlined the annual Texas Bar-B-Q Festival at Claiborne West Park in Vidor.

• April 29, 2004 Cross Canadian Ragweed performed at Antone's in downtown Beaumont as the band toured in support of its March release, "Soul Gravy," which peaked at number 51 on the Billboard Top 200 albums chart.

• April 29, 1952 Country music artists Hank Williams, Ernest Tubb and Minnie Pearl performed a special benefit concert in Beaumont.
