Zona Jones to headline Boys’ Haven Crawfish Festival

Special to The Leader

BEAUMONT — Country music and crawfish will come together for the 22nd Annual Boys’ Haven of America’s Music and Crawfish Festival.

Gates will open from 11 a.m. until 10 p.m. Saturday, May 31, at Ford Park. This year’s festivals includes children’s activities, a variety of vendors, a boat display, and live music to keep the entire family busy throughout the day.

Well-known country artist Zona Jones and his band Swing West will headline the event taking stage around 8:30 p.m. They will play favorites off their 2004 Harley and Horses CD: “ My Hat's Off To Him, In My Eyes, All Of Me, Now We're Even.”

Big Rich Courville and his team of cookers will prepare literally thousands and thousands of pounds of crawfish with all the fixings. Tickets can be purchased at the gate: $5 for adults, children 12 and under free. A plate of crawfish with the fixings is $10. A drive-thru Crawfish To-Go line will be available, look for the directional signs at Ford Park.

“The Crawfish Festival is our major fundraiser, it puts the bread and butter on our table for a few months, plus it truly is a southeast Texas tradition,“ Donna Turchi, Executive Director, said.

Families are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and enjoy the outdoor festival. No outside coolers or food allowed.

Boys’ Haven is a non-profit, non-sectarian, charitable institution. The facility is a basic care facility that serves boys ages 8 to 17 and provides a port for stormy times in boy’s lives. Many of these boys come from single parent homes and are in need of a more structured environment. Several of them are here long term and plan to stay with us until they graduate high school.

The program is based on the principals of discipline and hard work rather than punishment, a program where natural consequences occur and privileges are earned.

It was the community that believed "every boy deserves a home," and we have continued the mission for 60 years by keeping that dream alive for all young men who need our help.
