Wet weather outdoors equals plenty to do indoors

Mother Nature has been a bit less than cooperative lately as intermittent rainfall has kept outdoor activities to a minimum. If you are tired of being stuck at home, then be sure to check out one of these great events around the area this week.
Lutcher Theater
Legendary pop-rock singer and songwriter Billy Joel may not be performing in Orange tonight, but you can still hear his hit songs such as “It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me,” “We Didn’t Start the Fire,” and “Pressure” during the production of “Movin’ Out,” which features no dialogue and is only told through dance.
Less than 200 tickets remain for today’s showcase, which begins at 7:30 p.m., and tickets are available for $35 by calling 409-745-5535 or online at www.lutcher.org. The show is not recommended for ages 13 and younger.
Capistrano
The party is on this weekend in downtown Orange as the Capistrano features two solid nights of entertaining, live music.
Scheduled to appear tonight is No Limit, while local blues rock act Three Legged Dawg finds the spotlight on Saturday. Karaoke is featured every Thursday night. Ages 21 and older are always invited to come out and enjoy the music, dance or play pool.
Polo’s Lounge
After a couple of weeks of rock music, the newly reopened Polo’s Lounge goes country this weekend as Twisted Saddle performs tonight and Saturday from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Admission is $5 for single admission or just $8 per couple at the door. Ages 21 and older are always welcome. Call 409-886-5546 for more information. The venue now features karaoke every Wednesday and ladies night on Thursday’s.
Club 87
Classic rock fans can rejoice as Rockin’ Horse is Saturday night’s live entertainment at Club 87 in north Orange.
The group has been a staple of the area music circuit for several years, and these guys play some of the best rock hits from the 1960s and ’70s you would want to hear. Admission is $5 at the door for ages 21 and older. Call 409-746-2394 for more information.
Bayou Club
Check out Lone Star karaoke and a live DJ from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. every Wednesday through Saturday. Ages 21 and older are welcome. Call 409-882-9299 for more information.
Paulette’s
Karaoke is featured every Friday and Saturday night, and there is never a cover charge. Call 409-670-9920 for more information.
Eagles Lodge
Karaoke starts at 8 p.m. Saturday and the public is invited to enjoy the fun and participate until 12:30 a.m. Guests need not be a member of the lodge to attend. Call 409-886-7381 for more information.
The Stoned Crow
More karaoke can be found every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday at The Stoned Crow, which is located in Northway Plaza in Orange. The venue also features a DJ and the occasional live band every Saturday night. Ages 18 and older are always welcome and there is never a cover charge.
The House of Rock
All ages get a double dose of live music this weekend at The House of Rock, located inside Bridge City Skatepark, starting with tonight’s showcase which features Annabel Lee, We Are Legion, The Fight Scene, and Versus The Bullet.
The doors open at 7 p.m. and admission is $8 per person.
Saturday is the prime night of this weekend’ schedule at the venue as several regional acts converge for one monster concert.
Headlining is regional music group Meriwether, which recently completed a tour as the opening act for Saosin. Also appearing is Forever Falls, Saturate, from Houston, and the Lake Charles-based outfit Colorcast Veteran. Opening the show is area band Haven.
The doors open at 7 p.m. for all ages and the show starts immediately. Admission is $10.
The Vortex
Punk music reigns tonight at The Vortex, located on North 11th Street in Beaumont as area band The Scraps is releasing its new CD.
Special guests include Sour Mash and The Crazy Ivans. Admission is $10 at the door for ages 21 and older, and each paid entry receives a free copy of The Scraps new album.
Logon Cafe
Port Arthur native Madison Monroe performs tonight at the Logon Cafe in Beaumont as he releases his first CD, “No Boundaries.”
Monroe, whose new album was recorded in the new state-of-the-art recording studio at Lamar State College-Port Arthur, will perform starting at 8:30 p.m. Admission is $5 at the door. Call 409-832-1529 for more information.
Madison’s
If you are looking for a place to just hang out and visit with friends, but enjoy live music as well, then check out Madison’s.
Located on Dowlen Road in Beaumont, the restaurant regularly features entertaining area and regional bands. Scheduled to appear Saturday night is Johnny Gossip and then a special Tuesday night concert is scheduled featuring El Floppy Tacos. Port Arthur Little Theatre
If you are a fan of the theater, then look no further as the Port Arthur Little Theatre presents its production of “The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas” this week. Dylan’s
Knotch is back in Mid-County for the first time in a number of weeks, but the group will quickly remind everyone why its popularity is increasing with every show. On Saturday, Top 40 variety cover band Hoosier Daddy performs its first area show this month. Hoosier Daddy is always a crowd favorite. Ages 18 and older are welcome to attend. Woody’s
Get down and dirty tonight at Woody’s as this Mid-County venue welcomes back with the Aaron Williams Band for another fabulous night of blues-based rock music from one of the area’s best trios. Admission is $7 at the door for ages 21 and older.
Antone’s
Crockett Street goes metal tonight as area rockers Stale Mind headline a special showcase at Antone’s.
The group has been a force on the area music circuit for more than half a decade and is looking at breaking out with a new album and possible tour.
Special guests include The Kingdom Mafia, Until Death and Beyond the Lies and Deceit. Admission is $10 at the door.
Saturday’s concert is area cover rock group Knotch, so if you are a fan of Nickelback, Godsmack and the like, then Knotch promises to deliver a good time. Opening the show is area rock band Altar Ego.

Texas Star Bar
Kris Harper is Saturday’s featured acoustic attraction upstairs at the Texas Star Bar. Admission is always free, and ages 21 and older are always welcome.
L’Auberge du Lac Event Center
The legendary hit group Kool and The Gang is performing at 8:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday in the event center at L’Auberge du Lac Casino and Hotel in Lake Charles. The band is probably best known for mega-hits like “Celebration,” “Joanna,” “Cherish,” and “Get Down on It,” which helped the group achieve platinum status throughout the late ’70s and early ’80s.
Tickets are available at all Ticketmaster outlets for $39.95 and $29.95, plus service charge for ages 21 and older only.
Isle of Capri
Comedian and actor Wanda Sykes brings her abrasive, yet funny brand of stand up comedy to the Isle of Capri Casino at 8 p.m. Saturday in Lake Charles. Get your tickets fast because the show is nearly sold out. Tickets are available for $35 at all Ticketmaster outlets for ages 21 and older only.
Orange VFW
If you are have the mid-week blues and are looking for something fun to do, then consider your options at the VFW Hall in Orange.
Bingo is the name of the game starting at 6:30 p.m. every Wednesday while the weekly dance and concert starts at 7 p.m. every Thursday night featuring music from variety act, Crossfire. Admission is $5 at the door. Call 409-886-9738 for more information.
