Cheers to the Lions Club of Orange for another great carnival

Cheers to the Lions Club of Orange for another great carnival. Mother Nature helped this one after dumping on it the past couple of years. Lions Club members work hard on this annual event and we see the fruits of their labors both in the children’s faces during the carnival and in those who are helped by the funds raised.

Cheers to the West Orange-Stark Middle School sixth-graders for their Pet of the Week efforts. The students are working on their descriptive writing by describing a dog or cat needing to be adopted from a shelter, and most have gone to loving homes. Pet of the Week is published Mondays.

Jeers to Greenpeace for its latest global warming solution. Greenpeace is now suggesting Australians eat Kangaroo meat instead of beef to cut down on methane gases — and yes, the organization means burping and farting. A recent report from climate-change “experts” also calls for people to reduce red meat and switch to chicken and fish because land-clearing and methane-producing cattle and sheep were damaging the environment. And, we thought it was bad when Sheryl Crowe called for one square per wipe.

Cheers to the Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce — as well as the Veterans of Foreign Wars, American Legion Posts 249 and 250, the Veterans Service of Orange County and the Vietnam Veterans of America — for sponsoring the Salute to Veterans to be held at the city’s boat ramp Saturday, Nov. 10. Many have given much for the freedoms we as Americans enjoy, and those who gave their time and lives deserve to be honored. The Leader is spotlighting a veteran each Monday leading up to the tribute.

Jeers to Andrea Eichhorn, the Florida police sergeant who filed suit against the family of 1-year-old Joey Cosmillo after she fell on a puddle of water at the Cosmillos’ home as she was called to rescue little Joey from the family pool. The family has had enough put on their plate, considering Joey was left with severe brain damage and cannot walk, talk or feed himself. As if that was not bad enough, Eichhorn’s lawyer had the audacity to state the Cosmillos “caused these problems, brought them on themselves, then tried to play the victim.” There no words to describe such disgusting actions.
