Jeers to local contractor for child porn possession

Jeers to Vidor contractor Robert Toutcheque, who confessed to possession of child pornography, some of which was found on a thumb drive, a portable information storage device, at the Army base he was working at in Iraq. He was sentenced this week to 21 months in federal prision. We wonder what his sentence would have been had the Iraqis found the smut.



Cheers to the Bridge City High School Cardinal Singers for placing eight students in the Region 10 Choir. These students will prepare for the next round of the Texas All-State Choir competition and will perform in concert on Nov. 8 at the Julie Rogers Theater in Beaumont. The students are Devon Armstrong and Randy Wuske, Bass II; Megan Croaker. Soprano 1; Olivia Wright, Sporano II; and Christine Kendall, Lauren Miller, Megan Mumbach and Courtney McKinney, Alto 1. The BCHS choir is under the direction of Tina Bernard.



Cheers to U.S. Army veteran Jim Broussard for conintuing to fight for his country. After hearing a Reno, Nev., bar was flying a Mexican flag above a U.S. flag, he drove to there and cut down the banners in front of the Hispanic patrons. He left the Mexican flag on the ground and took the U.S. flag with him, noting to a news camera man that the bar was breaking a federal law by flying a flag above the U.S. flag. While we cheer his patriotism, we don’t advise others to take similar matters into their own hands; it could be dangerous.



Cheers to the CHAMPS (Community Hands Assembling a Multi-Purpose Structure) organization for its efforts to bring a multi-purpose meeting facility to Orange County. The organization unveiled the plans for the facility earlier this week; the plans include office space, a community room, a softball complex, a rodeo arena, and a shooting range for the 4-H program. The county was left with a shortage of meeting places after Hurricane Rita devastated Southeast Texas in 2005; it’s good to see CHAMPS taking the initiative to alleviate that shortage. We wish them success in their endeavor and encourage county residents to support it.
