Cheers to Bo’s Place for hosting cancer fund-raiser event

Cheers to Bo’s Place and all those who chipped in to make Saturday’s fund-raiser for a cancer patient a success. It’s a comfort to know the place we live is full of people who are willing to give of their time and/or money to help others in times of need.

Jeers to Nebraska State Sen. Ernie Chambers for filing a lawsuit against God. Frustrated about frivolous lawsuits, Chambers is trying to make the point that anybody can file suit against anybody. His wrongful death suit against God, he said, can be filed in his home county of Douglas because God is everywhere. He accuses God of “widespread death, destruction and terrorization of millions upon millions of the Earth’s inhabitants.” Interesting idea. But, two wrongs don’t make a right, and in this case clogging up the courts with the most frivolous lawsuit of all frivolous lawsuits is wrong. We hope the suit is tossed out at the next opportunity.

Cheers to the Orange Convention and Visitors Bureau for bringing us this weekend’s Showdown on the Sabine. The boat races, which make a stop in Port Neches in May each year, should bring many visitors and their wallets to Orange County. We welcome them. Let’s hope Mother Nature has a bright smile for them as well.

Cheers to Firestone Polymers for its 50 years of operation in Orange County, which the plant celebrated Thursday. Firestone has been a longtime contributor to the area’s economy and the company and its employees continue to be solid citizens.

Cheers to NASCAR’s Robert and Doug Yates, who had the rights to the No. 88, but retired it so Dale Earnhardt Jr. could use it next season. Earnhardt’s stepmother wouldn’t give up her rights to his No. 8 after he signed with Dale Earnhardt Inc. competitor Hendrick Motorsports. The Youngs said Ralph Earnhardt drove the No. 88 Olds in 1957 and were proud to transfer the number.
