UPDATE: Hundreds mourn the death of TV anchor Bill Leger

BEAUMONT — Hours after it was reported KFDM anchor Bill Leger lost his life in a car wreck in Louisiana, people from all over Southeast Texas were using social media sites to pay their respects.

Leger was kill in a one-car wreck on Louisiana 93 when its 2012 Jeep failed to negotiate a curve when headed south and eventually overturned and stalled in the northbound lane. A vehicle then crashed into Leger's vehicle. 

Louisiana State Police authorities reported it was unclear if Leger had been killed before ending up iin the northbound lane. Leger, 48, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Clint Melancon, 52 of Louisiana, was arrested as the driver of the second vehicle and it was determined his blood alcohol level was over the state limit. He was charged with driving while intoxicated. 

Leger had been with KFDM for almost 20 years and built a faithful following in Southest Texas. His Restaurant Report aired every Friday and was a local favorite.

Jenna Abshire Beach of Orangefield was one of hundreds of people who went on KFDM's Facebook page to speak to those left to mourn Leger's death.

"I am so sad to hear of Bill's passing," Beach wrote on the social media site. "I know he will be sorely missed. Sending lots of prayers and blessings to his family and his KFDM family. Peace be with you."

Over 560 people had commented on the post announcing his death on the website as of 7 p.m. 

Police officials will now wait for toxicology samples to be processed by a crime lab to bring more light into the wreck.

It was unclean if Leger was wearing his seat belt at the time of the wreck.
