BRIDGE CITY —
The Bridge City Cardinals scored early Thursday night and then scored late to end the game on a run-rule versus the West Orange-Stark Mustangs.
Bridge City took a 3-0 lead in the first inning with no hits and four WO-S errors and eventually won 12-2 when Bryce Sampere hit a game-winning two-run double to center.
Preston Pittman notched the win on the mound by throwing 3 1/3 innings. He allowed no hits and struck out four with one walk.
Bridge City and Silsbee are still in a first place tie in the District 21-3A standings after the Tigers defeated Hardin-Jefferson 7-4 Thursday. Bridge City travels to face Orangefield Friday while Silsbee will take on West Orange-Stark. If the two teams are still tied after Friday they will play a tiebreaker at 1 p.m. Saturday at West Brook High School in Beaumont.
Keaton Langston and Sampere each had three RBI for the Cardinals Thursday while Langston and Hayden Guidry each scored twice against the Mustangs. Sage Elmore scored three times as a courtesy runner.
