First UMC offers ‘Wednesday Night Live’ classes to public

ORANGE — • Slightly Bad Girls of the Bible (Oct. 9 – Nov. 13)

This class will look at five “good girls” of the Bible and find out they have flaws. Focusing on Genesis, we will look at Sarah (a control freak), Hagar (who was filled with bitterness), Rebekah (a conniving schemer who played favorites with her sons), Leah (another schemer) and Rachel (who was consumed by jealousy). One theme that emerges clearly is how fertility, or the lack of it, dominated these women’s lives in a patriarchal culture. This book capably blends fictional vignettes of contemporary “bad girls” with in-depth examination of their biblical counterparts’ stories. The book’s overall theme: even faithful women can sometimes be hurtful and selfish. There is a $10 book fee.

• Serving from the Heart (Oct. 9 – Nov. 13)

This class will examine God’s plan for the church which is for each member of the Body of Christ to play a vital role. Sometimes we think that serving God is an obligation, a duty, and that it isn’t meant to be enjoyable. The truth is, though, that God wants us to find joy and fulfillment when we serve. That happens when we serve in a role that matches who God created us to be. There is a $10 book fee.

• Man Code (Oct. 9 – Nov. 13)

“The ManCode” will change your thinking about how to form meaningful relationships, starting with God and moving out from there. Renovate your relationships and spiritual life and overcome your struggles against hopelessness, failure, and temptation with a clear understanding of the “ManCode” and the tools to put its principles into practice. Upon completing this study, you will be ready to win battles of the heart and mind that you face every day at work and home. There is a $10 book fee.
