VIDOR — Athletic Director and football coach Jeff Mathews has been announced as the 2012 Homecoming Honorary Parade Marshal.
The Vidor Homecoming Parade will be held Friday afternoon, Oct. 26, on Main Street in Vidor. Mathews, who has been head coach and athletic director since 1999, has been an integral part in building a positive outlook not only for the Vidor High School football team, but for the community as a whole.
Mathews led the Pirates to the third round of the Class 4A high school football playoffs last year as the team rolled to victories over Crosby and Montgomery/Magnolia before suffering a season ending loss to Angleton. This was the Pirates first playoff win since 1964 and matched the '64 team's success of two playoff wins.
Mathews strives to build character and values in his players and help them become better people. Winning football games is secondary.
