Heritage Festival expands to offer more food and fun

BRIDGE CITY — The fall festival season in Orange County continues this coming weekend with the return of the Bridge City Heritage Festival.

The Second Annual Bridge City Heritage Festival will take place Saturday, Sept. 29, on the grounds of the Bridge City Community Center, located off West Roundbunch Road in Bridge City. Admission to the festival is $1 per person.

The new festival, which debuted in 2011 and had more than 2,000 in attendance, is sponsored by the Bridge City Historical Society and was created as a way to draw people to this Orange County community and the county.

Paige Williams, festival chairperson, said the festival has expanded in many areas this year, after have such a successful debut. This year’s festival will feature more food vendors and a larger carnival, as well as live music. Other activities include a silent auction, and many arts and crafts vendors located inside the community center offering their goods.

“We’re trying to make it a little bigger and a little better,” Williams said. “Last year we were kind of feeling our way through it since it was the first year, but we took notes and knew what areas we wanted to make even better.”

The event has also expanded to include more live music. This year’s lineup will include performances by the Port Arthur Playboys, Three Legged Dawg, Fuse, Fire and Rain, and Center Stage.

The numbers of vendors has increased enough that festival organizers have rented a large tent for outside to accommodate their growing number.

Other additions include 18 Shades of Grey, an non-profit agency which finds new homes for Greyhound dogs, authors Frances Collins, Sylvia Dickey Smith and Rebecca Stark Nugent will be on site, plus more children’s activities.

“We really want to make it fun for the family, so we’ve added a petting zoo for the kids, plus a cake-walk, and even children’s bingo and junior bingo to go along with our adult bingo,” Williams added. “Plus there are more carnival games for kids.”
