ORANGE — Community Needs Grants

The Service League of Orange is currently accepting applications for its Community Needs Committee to encourage projects and events which promote and benefit the entire Orange County area. Verification of a non-profit 501-c3 status must accompany the Community Needs application. Thrift and Gift

Thrift and Gift, located at 350 37th St. in Orange, has many new items from vendors and donations including antiques, glass pieces, vintage and new jewelry, and an assortment of birdhouses and other wood pieces. Call 409-886-7649 for info.



Hunter Education Safety Class

Texas Parks and Wildlife hunter Education Safety Class Field part will be taught from 1:30 p.m. - 5:30 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 22, Class is not just for hunters, but anyone who handles a firearm. Holiday in the Park booth registration

The City of West Orange is accepting booth registration for Holiday in the Park scheduled for Sat. Nov. 2, 2013. Deadline to confirm a booth space is Fri., Oct. 11, 2013. Applications for registration and a site map are on the city’s website at www.cityofwestorange.com



Farmers Market

A Farmers Market is now available starting at 8:30 a.m., every Saturday, through November at Rocking R Farm and Ranch, 2772 State Highway 12 in Vidor. Vendors are welcome and there is no charge for booths. Call 409-422-4184 for information.



OC Farmers Market

The Orange County Farmers Market is open twice a week through November from 8 a.m. - 11 a.m., Saturdays, and 3 p.m. - 6 p.m., Wednesdays, in the parking lot of Big Lots on MacArthur Drive in Pinehurst. Items available include fresh seasonal produce, jams and jellies, pickles, and fresh eggs, as well as a large variety of yard plants and house plants, homemade baked goods and homemade granola. The City Council of West Orange will meet at 5:30 p.m., Monday, Sept. 9, at the West Orange Community Center located at 2700 Western Ave. in West Orange. The public is welcome to attend.

Retirees of Chevron, Texaco and Unocal, please note. The normally scheduled September meeting of the Chevron Retirees Association has been rescheduled to Oct. 14, 2013. A notice of the meeting will be posted as the new date approaches.



Veterans Recognition Program

Membership Drive

American Legion Lloyd Grubbs Auxiliary 49 is conducting its membership drive for 2014. We are still collecting dues for 2013. If you haven’t paid yet, please mail your dues to ALA UNIT 49, P.O. SETX Stamp Club

The Southeast Texas Stamp Club will meet at 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 19 at the Mid-Jefferson County Meeting Room, 7965 Viterbo Road in Beaumont. Exit to the Jack Brooks Regional Airport, pass the Chevrolet Sales and take the first right by the License Center, come to the end of the road and turn left, it will be the 2nd building on the left. Peel Out Car Club

The Orange Peel Out Car Club will have its 5th annual Open Car Show from 9 a.m. - 3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 21, at Granger Chevrolet, 2611 MacArthur Drive in Orange. Entry fee is $20 in advance and $25 day of show. Entrants receive a free T-shirt and dash plaque. This is an open show and vehicles need not be classic or antique to enter. Trophies awarded. LCHS Multi-Class Reunion

The Little Cypress High School graduating classes of 1953 through 1970 have scheduled a reunion on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013. Master Gardeners

The monthly meeting of the Orange County Master Gardeners is held the second Thursday of the month at the Salvation Army building on the corner of MLK and Strickland in Orange. At 6 p.m. is a potluck supper and the business meeting and/or program will start at 6:30 p.m. In July we will have a program on hydroponics. At the end of each meeting door prizes will be drawn.
