Electrifying event set for Lutcher this Friday

ORANGE — In a show unlike anything most have ever seen, ArcAttack will take students and adults on an interactive journey of discovery, learning the science behind the show they see on stage. There are two opportunities to experience ArcAttack with performances scheduled for 9:30 a.m. and 11:30 a.m., Friday, Oct. 18. All tickets for the show are $4 each and may be purchased by calling 409-886-5535. The show runs about one hour in length.

Creators of the original Singing Tesla Coil, the cast of ArcAttack will prompt students to learn about Nikola Tesla and his contributions to the birth of commercial electricity, discover Delia Derbyshire and how music and technology are related, and develop an understanding of machines and robotics.

In a brand new educational show the creators of ArcAttack unveil the science behind the spectacle. Combining their love of music along with exploring concepts such as electricity, voltage and current, magnetism, robotics, lightning, and tackling complex issues like engineering, the crew of ArcAttack makes these concepts accessible for school audiences of all ages. The audience is engaged from start to finish as the groups' trusty, completely automated robot drummer "King Beat" introduces the audience to the group.

Students are taken through a journey of scientific discovery as they learn about basic electricity and how to light a light bulb. They are sure to have a “hair raising” experience with their customized Voltage Multiplier (Van de Graaff Generator), learn how to build and use a ring launcher, and of course learn the science behind their signature Tesla Coils.

Along the way students will be amazed as they see the ArcAttack crew literally walk through lightning, then learn how it’s possible, and see where the future of science is headed. Maybe they’ll have as much fun as the ArcAttack crew has but either way, it is predicted they will enjoy the show, and maybe, just maybe, be inspired to help leave the world a little better than the way they found it.
