Battle of Calcasie Pass 150th anniversary ceremony this Saturday

CAMERON, La. — The Sons of Confederate Veterans (SCV) Camp 1390 will commemorate the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Calcasieu Pass from 10 a.m, to noon, Saturday, May 10 at the Cameron Court House, 119 Smith Circle.

The purpose of this event is to honor the fighting spirit, heroism and devotion to duty displayed by those soldiers who fought at the Battle of Calcasieu Pass. There will be Civil War re-enactors in uniform firing period rifles and cannons, several brief historical presentations and proclamations, and a remembrance of the men who participated in this event.

The SCV is the oldest hereditary organization for male descendants of Confederate soldiers and serves as a historical, patriotic and non-political organization. The SCV sponsors programs which offer members activities including preservation work, making Confederate soldier’s graves, carrying out re-enactments, and more.
