UPDATE: Friends of the Orange Depot unveil plans for train station

ORANGE — Friends of the Orange Depot, a new non-profit organization is holding a conference, inviting the public, to unveil the plans for the recently purchased Southern Pacific Rail Road Depot near the intersection of Green Avenue and 11th Street, Orange.

The meeting, 10 a.m. Wednesday, will include the architect, J. Rob Clark with Architectural Alliance, Inc., Beaumont, and the new owners, Friends of the Orange Depot, including Carrie Woliver, author of The Train Stopped in Orange.

City of Orange Director of Planning and Community Development Jimmie Lewis said he was not sure of how many people have expressed interest in the depot but knew many have had an interest in it.

“I think it is great, absolutely wonderful that there is a new organization to restore the depot,” Lewis said in a recent interview. “The city did not have the resources to restore it, nor has the city ever owned it. It is one of the few historic things left in the city.”

Woliver has worked on a plan for the train depot since seeing the station in it’s current state when she returned to Orange for a book-signing,

The conference will unveil restoration designs and plans for operating the Orange Depot.

In the event of inclement weather, the conference will be moved to the Orange City Council Auditorium, 220 North 5th Street, next to the Orange Public Library.

UPDATE: The location has been changed to the Orange City Council Auditorium, 220 North 5th Street (next to the Orange Public Library).
