Hoop tourney wrap up: OC teams notch some wins

EVADALE — The Evadale Tournament was a busy place for Orange County hoopsters over the weekend.

On the boys side, the West Orange-Stark Mustangs advanced to the championship game, falling to East Chambers 83-55.

The Mustangs reached the finals by downing the host Rebels 69-66 and Liberty 53-44 as Teron Brown scored 55 points and snared 23 rebounds in the two victories.

The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears competed in the Evadale Tournament this weekend.

The Orangefield Bobcats dropped an exciting 53-49 overtime decision to East Chambers.

Alex Catt had 18 points and five rebounds for the Bobcats while Aven Lathrop had 13 points and Tyrone Waggoner added six rebounds.

The Bobcats dropped a 61-53 decision to the host Rebels.

Alex Catt led the Bobcat offense with 23 points with eight points. Lathrop tallied 11 points and Kaiden Dubose scored 10 while Waggoner added eight rebounds.

The Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears had a busy Evadale Tournament. In pool play, they defeated Huffman 28-19, Chelsea Perry led with 11 points. On Saturday they defeated West Orange Stark 39-27, again with Chelsea Perry leading with 12 points and 11 rebounds. Jacie Miller added 10 points and five boards with Karly Rogers adding six points and 12 rebounds. The Lady Bears fell to East Chambers 36-25, Chelsea Perry led with 10 points, five boards and four steals.  They then lost the third place game to Warren 43-35, Chelsea Perry led with 13 points and five rebounds with Jacie Miller adding 11 points and 12 boards.

Over at the Nederland Tournament, both the LC-M and Bridge City boys competed there.

LC-M dropped a tight 47-45 decision to Lufkin. On Saturday they bounced back to down Vidor 52-40.

Christian Weatherly and Katon Brown each had double-doubles for the Bears. Weatherly had 17 points and 10 rebounds while Brown notched 11 points and 13 boards. Cole Frost added 10 points while Braden Bridges had eight.

The Bears also defeated Grace Prep (MS) 73-52 as Bridges fired in a whopping 35 points.

Bridge City defeated Beaumont Kelly 58-51 and dropped a 49-35 decision to Port Neches-Groves.
