Special to The Leader

Fifty-three Juniors from Opelousas Catholic High School traveled to Orange to deliver gift cards, clothes, shoes, and school supplies.  The students were accompanied by Liz Meche, School Counselor, Matt Hebert, Religion Teacher and Coach Steve Guidroz.

After hearing about the losses in Orange due to Hurricane Harvey, the school decided to adopt St. Mary.   At the time, Opelousas Catholic did not know that Dr. Cynthia Jackson was an alumni of the school.  After an  initial phone contact, Dr. Jackson visited Opelousas Catholic during a visit home and received a warm welcome from her alma mater.

During Opelousas Catholic’s visit to St. Mary, the schools shared the Rosary and afterwards the students had an opportunity to visit classrooms and interact with St. Mary students and teachers.    St. Mary was excited about the visit and will always remember the kindness from our visitors from the neighboring state of Louisiana.   Dr. Jackson will always treasure her alma mater’s support of our school.
