Lady Bears cruise past WO-S in 3

LITTLE CYPRESS — Getting off to a roaring start in their new “Bear Cave” early on in the District 22-4A volleyball season, the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Lady Bears made quick work of the West Orange-Stark Lady Mustangs 25-8, 25-14, 25-10 Tuesday night.

The Lady Bears, who tied for the 22-4A co-title with the Silsbee Lady Tigers last season, improved to 2-0 on the young district season after also defeating Hamshire-Fannett last Tuesday night.

LC-M dominated the Lady Mustangs from the very start jumping out to a 6-1 lead in Game One, 9-2 in Game Two and 12-1 in Game Three to control the action throughout.

Renna Toomey and Ally White led the Lady Bears with 10 kills apiece while Kaitlin Avery had six, Chelsea Perry five and Rachel Belcher three.

Gabrielle Tims led the Lady Mustangs (0-2), who feel to Silsbee in their 22-4A opener last week, with four kills. Destiny LeBouef and Marlandria Hebert added three kills apiece while Kennedy Queen had two.

The Lady Bears finished with 37 kills while the Lady Mustangs had 13.

LC-M dominated on service points as well, earning 52 of those while WO-S had just eight.

Perry served up 13 points and two aces for the Lady Bears. Toomey had nine points and an ace. White, Kayla Dominguez and Morgan Weaver each had five points with an ace while Raley Broussard had four points and Asjah Harper-Kelly added two kills.

Ry’Asian Dougherty led WO-S with three service points while Andranique Hardin had two.

The Lady Bears will venture to Bridge City Friday to face the Lady Cardinals while the Lady Mustangs play host to the Hamshire-Fannett Lady Longhorns.
