Traffic stop lands two in jail for drug charge

According to a press release obtained from Pinehurst Police Department, on Tuesday, at 7:30 p.m. Officer J. Lockett of the Pinehurst Police Department conducted a traffic stop in the 2500 block of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Pinehurst.

The driver was identified as Leonard Earl Antwine Jr., 21. The passenger was identified as Deion Wallace, 19. Both list addresses in Orange.

Officer Lockett smelled the distinct odor of marijuana emanating from the vehicle and observed a gun box in plain view on the back seat of the vehicle.

Officer Lockett subsequently conducted a search of the vehicle and occupants.

The search revealed a Glock Model 19 semi-automatic handgun with a fully loaded 30 round magazine, a Taurus semi-automatic handgun and an amount of what appeared to be marijuana packaged for distribution.

Both subjects were placed under arrest for Unlawfully Carrying a Weapon and Possession of Marijuana.

Antwine was also charged with operating a vehicle with no drivers license. Both were transported to the jail for booking.

Antwine received a $2500 bond for the possession charge and $2500 for the Unlawfully Carrying a Weapon Charge and a $500 bond for the traffic offense.

Wallace received a $1500 bond for the possession charge and $2500 for the Unlawfully Carrying a Weapon Charge.

If convicted they each face up to 18 months in jail and a $6000 fine.
