_________

UPDATE (9:47 a.m.) At approximately 7:30a.m., the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) received a report of a multiple vehicle crash on Interstate 10 in Jefferson County.  The crash occurred approximately one (1) mile west of Ford Park.

DPS can confirm that one person is deceased and two others have been transported to local hospitals with unknown injuries.

Preliminary reports indicate that a Chevrolet pickup truck and a mid-size commercial motor vehicle were stopped in the outside lane of Interstate 10 due to an earlier crash in the eastbound traffic lanes.  The driver of a Dodge pickup truck towing a trailer failed to control speed and rear-ended the commercial motor vehicle.  The impact of that initial collision caused the commercial motor vehicle to rear-end the Chevrolet pickup truck.

The driver of the Dodge pickup truck was pronounced deceased at the crash scene.

The driver of the commercial motor vehicle and the driver of the Chevrolet pickup truck were both transported to local hospitals with unknown injuries.

At this time, all eastbound traffic lanes of Interstate 10, near Ford Park, remain closed.  Traffic is being diverted onto the service road at the Major Drive exit.  There is no estimated time as to when the roadway will reopen to traffic.

Motorists are urged to find alternate travel routes.  Expect long delays.

All information is preliminary as Troopers work to determine the exact factors that contributed to this fatal crash.
