A celebration for recently graduating landed one man in jail on Sunday.

An officer noticed a green Ford Ranger with a defective tail lamp at approximately 12:16 a.m. on Sunday at the 1000 block of Green Ave. in Orange. While the officer followed the vehicle, he observed the truck was unable to maintain a single lane leading the officer to proceed with a traffic stop.

Morgan Pilcher, 18, was arrested after the officer smelled and saw what the officer to believe was marijuana in the vehicle. Further searching of the truck revealed a purple cloth bag containing two screen filters, a glass pipe with marijuana residue and two plastic lighters along with a plastic baggy containing the green leafy substance.

Initially Pilcher told the officer, twice, he did not have any illegal substances in the vehicle.

“I drove to West Lake to drop off my girlfriend at her house, after spending some time with friends for a going away party for me.” Pilcher said according to a police report. “I hadn’t smoked in a while because I had been in trouble for it before. The weed I had tonight was to celebrate my recent graduation.”
