My name is Jeremiah Gunter. I am seeking the office of Constable Precinct 2 in Orange County (Republican). I am married to Savannah Gunter, we have been married five years. We have three amazing children, Madison Guilott (13), Mallory Guilott (10) and Mason Gunter (4). I am a long time resident of Mauriceville and a 1997 graduate of Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School.

I started my career as a Corrections Officer in 1997 with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. I worked a little over 3 years as a Corrections Officer, before attending the Jefferson County Police Academy in 2001. In early 2002, I was promoted as a Patrol Deputy with the Sheriff’s Office. Since then I have had the opportunity to work with 2 other Police Departments, including the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, Silsbee Police Department and I’m currently employed as a Patrol Officer/Department Training Officer with the Lamar University Police Department. I have worked in multiple positions throughout these departments, I’ve been assigned to Patrol Division, Civil Support Warrant Division, Narcotics Interdiction and Training.

I hold an Advanced Peace Officer License with over 2,100 continued training hours. I am a certified instructor, Firearms Instructor, Field Training Officer, Self Defense Instructor and certified ALERRT instructor for Citizens Response against an Active Shooter. I’ve been an active member of Orange County’s Special Weapons and Tactical team. I’ve received countless hours of tactical training including responding to an active shooter, hostage rescue and high and low risk warrant service.

With my experience and training I believe I would be an asset to the community serving as your next Constable. A Constables duties are as limited as serving civil and or criminal process and acting as a baliff of his justice court. I believe these are important tasks set for the Constable, but what about the protection of the community. A Constable is a Certified Peace Officer, we need to use him as one. I’ve worked patrol in every patrol zone in Orange County at no time did I wish there wasn’t another Peace Officer patrolling an area where I was.

As your Elected Constable I pledge to take a proactive stance against combating criminal activity in Precinct 2. I believe this can be done by visible patrol in connection with working with other Law Enforcement Agencies. Taking an active approach to Community Oriented Policing. Taking programs into the schools to teach Citizen’s Response to an active shooter event.

Your next Constable should be proactive, work to assist the community in making neighborhoods safer, by combating criminal activity. The Constable needs to work hand and hand with Community leaders and have the confidence from the community that he will perform the duties that he has described.
