ORANGE — The Stark Museum of Art once again welcomes families to make art after dark at Third Thursdays Art Night, February 18, 2016, from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Admission is free for all Orange County public, private or home school students, grades pre-K-12, wearing school colors or spirit wear. Admission for Adults (18-64) is $6; Seniors, (65 or over) $5; and children, 3 years and under, are admitted free. Stark Cultural Venues Members will also receive free admission.

Third Thursdays Art Night is designed to offer students and adults the opportunity to spend time together experiencing the Museum. The evening will include: a fun gallery scavenger hunt to win an art supply prize, displays of local student artwork, studio art activities for all ages, sketching in the galleries, and a hands-on station of touchable objects, all enhanced with the backdrop of music playing in the galleries.
Each Third Thursday also features an interactive demonstration by a local artist. For February, the Museum welcomes WOS’s Chris Jowers who will demonstrate charcoal drawing with vine charcoal. Jowers is a teacher at West Orange Stark Elementary, a former graphic artist at several advertising agencies throughout southeast Texas and southwest Louisiana and an avid photographer. He is a native of Vinton, Louisiana, and an award-winning graduate of McNeese State University in Lake Charles, Louisiana.

The March Third Thursdays Art Night is planned for March 17, 2016.

Stark Museum of Art Education Intern, Amanda Nicholson commented, “Third Thursdays at the Stark Museum of Art offer families an opportunity to come together and share an experience. The bright, energetic music heard upon entering the museum gives you a clue to the fun and excitement you are about to encounter. Third Thursdays offer activities such as Gallery Scavenger Hunts (with prizes!), art making activities, presentations from a different local artist each month and opportunities to experience the collections in a new way. Students from local high schools get a chance to show off their artworks and their passion for the arts. Every Third Thursday event provides an opportunity to leave with your own handmade work of art and reminds the community that the Stark Museum has a lot to offer when it comes to experience, education and fun.”
